Our Advanced Filtration Technologies
When coming to your home, the first thing we’ll do is inspect your HVAC system filters. Think of filters as the unsung heroes of your HVAC system. They’re great for trapping dirt, dust bunnies, pet dander, and more. Without a filter, you’d be breathing in some seriously nasty air.
Depending on the thickness of your filter, we’ll need to swap it out for a new one every 90 days to six months. We can also install UV air filtration in your home’s ductwork. UV filtration kills bacteria and mold before they have a chance to hit your lungs, making it a great option for people with allergies and asthma.
Air Filtration vs. Air Purification
Are air filtration and air purification the same thing? Not quite. They both remove pollutants, but air purification systems eliminate more contaminants.
Basic air filters capture dust, lint, carpet fibers, and mold spores. Thicker filters have a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating of 13 to 20. The higher the MERV rating, the more contaminants the filter can trap.
Filters with MERV ratings of 13 to 16 can capture the following:
Bacteria
Pet dander
Tobacco smoke
Germs from sneezes
Particles as tiny as 0.03 microns
Air purifiers neutralize contaminants that regular HVAC filtration systems cannot. For instance, a UV purifier kills bacteria, whereas an air filter simply captures them. Ionic purifiers are another option. They release negative ions into the air, which then bond to positive particles that pass by.
How To Tell If You Need Residential Air Filtration
Is it time to call Grasshopper Heating & Cooling for air filtration? Here’s how to know:
It’s been ages since you last cleaned or replaced your air filter. At the bare minimum, you should replace your filter every 90 days (or every six months to a year for thick filters).
You feel crummy inside your home, but symptoms subside once you get fresh air.
Someone in your home has allergies or asthma. In this case, standard air filters may not be enough to keep them comfortable. We may suggest a UV purifier as well.
We’re Pros at Purifying Indoor Air
Smell that? It’s the fresh, clean air you’ll have once we’ve hooked you up with efficient air cleaning. Our HVAC pros will wipe out pollutants so you and your family can breathe easy again.

FAQs
-
You can test indoor air quality with a VOC meter, NOx meter, or SO2 meter. VOC meters measure the accumulation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in your home’s air. A NOx meter measures nitrogen oxide, while SO2 meters test for sulfur dioxide. Using all three meters is the best way to get a complete picture of your indoor air quality.

Air purifiers can work if your goal is to remove pollutants from a small area of your home. For the best results, get a purifier with a HEPA filter. These purifiers are good at removing dust, pet dander, smoke, and other pollutants from the air.
-
Mold sickness typically presents as other allergies do. Symptoms might include itchy, watery eyes, throat, mouth, and nose irritation, sneezing, nasal stuffiness, and a runny nose. If you have symptoms like these, get your home tested for mold as soon as possible.
